During these 40 days, spend extra time in prayer and in Scripture seeking God. Ask the Lord for his will for MEC.
In addition to prayer and Bible reading, consider spending some time fasting.
Why fast? It is a means of humbling oneself before God, as we studied in James 4.
How do you fast? If you have never done it before, take it slow. Perhaps fast one meal once a week. Refrain from food and drink for that one meal. Break your fast gently. Spend the time that you would have spent eating communing with God in prayer and Bible reading. If you have experience with fasting, then you can do longer periods.
Prayer for Week 1
Pray each of the commands from James 4:7-10 for yourself, for your family, and for MEC. There are roughly six commands. You could pray one for each of the first six days.
1: “Submit yourselves therefore to God.”
2: “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
3: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
4: “Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
5: “Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.”
6: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
